Emmanuel (Baust) Church is a United Church of Christ congregation located half-way between Westminster and Taneytown, Maryland on Route 832. We are fairly easy to find with these directions. And here are a couple photos to help you identify us.
If you are curious about the name "Baust", you can learn more about our history as a congregation founded by German immigrants in about 1765. We've been here for quite a while, and that's partly because we're interested in and committed to serving our community.
We'll be glad to tell you more about EBUCC, but, briefly put, we identify ourselves as a church seeking to perceive the call and purposes of our ÒStill-Speaking GodÓ and to be involved in serving God as best we can using responsibly the life and gifts God has given us.
As a community of faith we seek
Éto know the love of God
Éto grow in the love of God
É to show the love of God.
Our Vision and Mission Statements adopted May, 2010 say a great deal about our congregation:
Vision Statement
We envision a community
where ALL people are welcomed, valued, nurtured
while growing in faith and living in peace.
Mission Statement
We live as a church to practice JesusÕ radical hospitality,
proclaim his message of love and peace and justice,
preserve GodÕs creation,
and to accept JesusÕ mission of service as our own.
As a Protestant Christian denomination, EBUCC affirms the faith expressed in historic creeds of the Christian Churches including the Apostles' Creed. Our United Church of Christ Statement of Faith is a more modern expression of what we believe.
With our sisters and brothers in the United Church of Christ, we believe that "God is still speaking." Our worship and witness are based on the historic and faithful witness of the Holy Scriptures and the teachings and creeds of Protestant Christianity. We have an ear, however, not only to listen for what God has already said and done, but to where God continues to help us grow and learn. We seek in our worship, study, and discernment of gifts and calling and in the use of our resources to participate in God's life-changing and life-giving mission in the world as demonstrated in Jesus Christ through faithful worship, words, and actions.
We take seriously or role in supporting children, youth, and families. We offer Sunday School Classes for children and youth as well as an adult Bible Study class on Sunday mornings.
We invite you to learn more about the Westminster area and about Carroll County.
In light of the recent tsunami disaster in Asia, you are encouraged to donate generously to one of the many agencies that are providing emergency relief assistance there. You can make a donation through the United Church of Christ's ecumenical relief efforts, and for more information on the United Church of Christ as a whole, visit the official home page of the UCC. Baust is in the Central Atlantic Conference, Catoctin Association.
