Lent and Easter, 2012 (Feb. 22 – April 8)

During Lent, we often refer to the five Sundays of Lent as a spiritual journey or our Lenten journey. "Journey" assumes that we travel or move from one place to another, which we do with some reasonable hope or promise that we will get where we are going. If we take our children on a journey to the beach, all we have to do is follow the prescribed route, and we keep our promise to go to the beach. Even though we believe God keeps God‘s promises, the results of a "spiritual journey" may be much less certain, much less clear for us; therefore, we pose these questions during Lent, Holy Week and Easter:

  • What are the promises of a Lenten journey for us in these days?
  • What do the stories of God‘s promises to Noah, Abram, Moses, and Jeremiah in the Hebrew scriptures (Old Testament) hold for us?
  • How do these promises intersect with our gospel lessons for Lent?
  • How does "spiritual journey" strengthen us for lives in a stressful world?

Lenten Prayer Healing Service Five Thursdays in Lent (March 1, 8, 15,22, & 29)
6:45 – 7:15 p.m.
Each Thursday evening for 30 minutes (6:45 – 7:15 p.m.) we will gather for a time of prayer, meditation and contemplation for the healing and renewal of our lives. We will pray for ourselves. We will pray for others in the church. We will pray for friends and co-workers and for the community – local and global. We will pray for those we find hard to love and for those no one loves, save but God. This time will be designed to blend our individual joys and concerns together with opportunities to share and deepen our own spiritual lives.

Building on the theme of Lent, (God’s Promises – Our Hopes), we will focus each Thursday on the following:
March 1 – God’s Promise of Refuge
March 8 – God’s Promise of Healing
March 15 – God’s Promise of Forgiveness
March 22 – God’s Promise of Transformation
March 29 – God’s Promise of Hope

Programs

Christian Education sessions are provided for our Sunday School program year, September 11, 2011 through the end of May, 2012. Sunday School Classes meet each Sunday morning during regular 10:30 worship, after the Children's sermon is delivered.
An adult Bible Study class meets each week at 10 a.m. in the Good Shepherd Room adjacent to the Sanctuary in the main church building.

Worship each Sunday morning in the Sanctuary, September - May, begins at 10:30 a.m. Worship June - August is at 9 a.m. in the Parish Hall where we have the benefit of air conditioning.

Accessibility: There is a stairs-free entry from the sidewalk at the rear of the church. Our parking area has been paved and several spaces are designated for those who require accessible entry to the church. There has been a rest room added which is accessible from the main floor of the church building. There is an accessible entrance at each level of the Parish Hall.

We take seriously our role in supporting children, youth, and families. Worship time child care is provided for children age six and under, affording a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment and peace of mind for parents as they worship. Children of any age, of course, are welcome in the full worship service, depending on the needs of children and preference of parents.

Our worship is probably best described as "blended". That means that we have a traditional worship pattern and structure. We use traditional hymns from our New Century Hymnal and supplement that with more contemporary songs and choruses. Lay leaders help with much of our worship service. Our adult choir regularly provide special musical selections in worship. Children are highly encouraged to be present and are welcomed and included through a "Time with Children" each week in worship.

We share in a variety of fellowship activities in and through the church. All of our activities are open to community participation. Some seasonal programs of outreach where we extend a special welcome to the community include our summer Vacation Bible School. Dates and times for those events will be posted here as appropriate.
